LBPC: The Game Room Creation Contest!- Over, Results on page 17 :kz:

Archive: 277 posts

I'm not bothered about xp or anything like that, I just want to know that you're still actually using the room I took the trouble to make for you. If not it's very rude to accept it initially and then throw it out in favour of 2 rooms you yourself rejected, especially as one of the creators basically told you to 'stuff it' as he couldn't be arsed to change it.

Ok, published a new example level over the old one with the four accepted rooms- from RickRock_777 and his Ideas/Projects one, mistervista and his StarGate SG1 one, WhiskisdaCat and his Signature exchange one, and... ok, I'll be honest with you, I don't know who made the What you dreamt about last night one XD. Sorry whoever you are- mind speaking up?

Anyway, there were two I WANTED to accept, they just were too thermo heavy. Mr radical's survivor room and RoseScythe's Silent Hill room. Sorry you too, right now is too thermo intensive. the four we have take up a little over a quarter, and should give you a clue what we're aiming for. Also, since this contest is really a guised way of getting new rooms for this mingiame, I'm probably going to extend the deadline :/

Not sure what you mean by 'Not what the initial rules of the contest asked'...

As for optimising, I really can't be bothered at this point.

Good luck with the contest

Quite right Astro, it's very rude to ask people for help, accept what they made for you and then tell them it wasn't any good after all and it's at the bottom of the pile. That's the way to get people to help you again in future !!

@mistervista...it's my understanding that only the rooms that were not judged and scored, as Rock said above, will definitely not be put in the level. I don't think Rock is saying that your room will be removed, since your room was judged and scored.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I kinda just wanted to get this contest over with, so I didn't really talk to my team bout my new scoring system... Yeah, I fail, I know.

At any rate...

Mistervista, I actually miscalculated your score. You actually have a 5.25, so unless I decide that this whole crazy thing I made up sucks, which it does, yours is actually above the limit I made up... so yeah. I think we will use it. Yep

... Yeah, sorry about this. I'll just...

Wondering, are there rooms that you didn't show in the level, or you may put them in?
If so, are you using mine?

Awesome! Rock, any chance we could get a breakdown of our scores, to see where we were weakest/strongest? I'm all about personal improvement. Thanks!

I look forward to seeing the other 4 levels in action so that I can absorb some design knowledge from their winning entries as well. Good job all!

My first contest... first published level since the Beta... I accept my 7.25 with pride! LOL

Well, people basically just scored each room as good, bad or meh... Not really much actual feedback :/2010-05-16 17:24:00

Then I look forward to getting my eyes on the levels with more 'Good' and less 'Meh' and then I can go on a personal journey of self-discovery... or something like that. LOL2010-05-16 20:55:00

RESULTS ARE IN! Or close enough, I unno, I think I came up with a good enough scoring system, and yeah.

TOP FIVE

SledKnight- LOST SCORE: 7.25
Gravel- YOU CAN DREAM IT SCORE: 9.5
RoseScythe SILENT HILL SCORE: 10.75
OneEyedBanshee SIG EXCHANGE SCORE: 12.5
Outlaw Jack OUTLAW FLYERS SCORE: 14.75

Those five are definitively in. Congratz to you.

Also congratz to the following:

mrradical's SURVIVOR SCORE: 5
chuck 18_mp ARCHIVE SCORE: 5.75

.. Go you! There were a few others, but I decided to cut the gap at precisely 5 points.

We also didn't judge a few we thought, well, weren't good enough to be judged. /cough

At any rate, thanks to everyone who participated, even if you weren't accepted . I'll talk to CC about your exp whenever it comes back. I'll also see what I can do about Ultimate Bundles to everyone who was accepted since I think they deserve it. Yep.

... Thank goodness this contest is over XD

... THIS CONTEST IS OVAH

So, anyone wanna go on a murderous rampage that they didn't get in/ any team members want to say "meh" and accept a few more? This isn't a guarantee... I may accept a few more, and if so I'll give you you... "just" rewards... D:

K, bring on the angry mob!

Lol, this is a surprise. I wasn't even expecting my level to be judged. Thank you! But now I'm all confuddled... first it was in... then it was too much of a thermo hog... now it's in again?

I'm getting dizzy. Feel free to use it if you want, and if you don't... meh

I think you misinterpretted that post of mine Vista, although reading it now I can see why, lol

At the time I may have been a little ticked off that the possibility of using the thermo cheat was renegged after I'd actually created the room and was told it was definitely in...

The way I designed the room, I would have been hard pressed to lower the thermo it used without completely starting from scratch. The layout was built around 2 elevators, which I would've had to remove, thus forcing me to redesign the entire thing to prevent the player from being stuck.

Seeing as how Rock said it was too thermo heavy to use, and that due to Uni I didn't have time to rebuild it, I thought it was best to just withdraw from the contest.

Yeah... I'm actually thinking of changing the requirements for being accepted in this. At the moment, it's merely a matter of numbers- For example, Gravel's room had three first places, yet at least 1 person outright failed it and pretty much everyone else mehed it. But it still got to the end because those three ones managed to push it to 15 points based on the opinions of less then half the team.

So yeah, basically, I was thinking of taking Rick's advice and adding that if it has too many "mehs" or "fails" to it, to not accept it because we wouldn't have a majority opinion... the problem is I already declared results XD Ah, I should have asked my team about my scoring system first >_< Well, aside from Burnvictim I mean.

Why not just have each member of the team score each room out of five in various areas: Gameplay, Visuals, thermo , etc. Average the score for each area and then total them for an overall score.

Eg.

Visuals 5, 4, 3.5, 5

Average: 4.5

Gameplay 2, 3.5, 3, 2.5

Average: 2.75

Overall: 7.25

It may change each room's overall score but I doubt it'd affect the outcome of the contest, as it stands you only published the scores for the top 5 rooms...

Just a thought...

Ouch... According to rock, not many people liked mistervista's room, yet he outscored me... Meaning even fewer liked mine... And since I didn't think that there were too many judges... ouch again...2010-05-20 01:31:00

Yes, I too would like to see the results of this judging system you have implemented (even though it sounds as though you did it on the fly...), just so we can have a better evaluation of how our rooms actually did.

And, from the looks of it, I feel as though my room was judged improperly... even though I really do like that 14.75...

All seven members of the team judged the rooms (myself, rick, lady, rock, takelow, joey, and SLS) in two different ways. First, we decided whether a room was awesome, quality, or not quite up to snuff. (technically we used other words, but these more reflect the views intended) We then each picked our top five favorite rooms, numbering them 1 through 5. Rock combined these scores, and created this scale:

Not so good = 0 points
quality = .5 points
awesome = 1 point
awesome (5th place) = 1.25 points
awesome (4th place) = 1.5 points
awesome (3rd place) = 1.75 points
awesome (2nd place) = 2 points
awesome (1st place) = 2.5 points

Each rooms score was equal to the total of the judging scores. A rather top heavy scale was created as a result of combining the two systems, leading to the huge dissimilarity in points. Many of the rooms which were submitted unfortunately were not judged, due to issues we found while testing them (broken rooms, multiplayer issues, conflicts with other rooms in the level) or too vague a LBPC theme.

If you wish for more detailed scoring on your particular room, send me a PM, and I will oblige. (Judging will remain anonymous, but I will give my personal feedback, and a general overview of scores recieved).

Hope that helps
