What, just what? Is the word some on one of Sam's websites or soomething? | 2009-10-17 23:46:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Alright, I'm trying to look further into the hint: "Well done for making it this far. Tricky puzzles give great rewards. The hardest example would obviously result, detrimentally, in Sam Lloyd's outstandingly logical/lateral, invigorating, powerfully obscure puzzles. There is but one step left. Can you solve it?" What is meant by "The hardest example would obviously result, detrimentally..."? I'm not asking you Dawes, but everyone else. | 2009-10-17 23:46:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Just one clue left, 750xp could be yours! Just read the last step in the OP, you don't need to read the rest! Incinerator, no, not that. compher, **** you're close! | 2009-10-17 23:46:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Yeah - it was fun up to this point. The clue in the encrypted image is doing nothing for me. Never heard of Sam Loyd before today. | 2009-10-17 23:46:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
v0rtex, read compher's post! The Sam Loyd bit is just meant to tell you to THINK LATERALLY and nothing else! | 2009-10-17 23:47:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

I meant close to the next step. compher, you were very close to finding the secret to the FINAL WORD. Keep at it! | 2009-10-17 23:49:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
in the clue you said "there is but one step left". There's more steps after that? You liar lol | 2009-10-17 23:50:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Well, I searched and it said detrimentally meant: "causing detriment; damaging; harmfully" | 2009-10-17 23:50:00 Author: Frinklebumper Posts: 941 |
Well, I searched and it said detrimentally meant: "causing detriment; damaging; harmfully" Chuck Norris! o/ | 2009-10-17 23:51:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Sometimes the final endings can be found in the beginnings. Frinkle, as I understand it, dentrimentally also means at it's core - "basically", in other words. | 2009-10-17 23:51:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
lol dawes thats not what detriment means at all -.- | 2009-10-17 23:52:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Ah well, it's not all that important. "definitely", then. | 2009-10-17 23:52:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Ummm.. .the first step is the hardest? first | 2009-10-17 23:53:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
detrimental is the opposite of beneficial | 2009-10-17 23:53:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Incinerator, it doesn't matter, just replace it in your head with "definitely" or "directly". | 2009-10-17 23:53:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
is te word rewards? | 2009-10-17 23:54:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Nope. Try following compher's positing. Especially his opening statement, "Alright, I'm trying to look further into the hint:" | 2009-10-17 23:55:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

Lloyd's outstandingly logical/lateral, invigorating, powerfully obscure puzzles. Look at the letters.. That was brilliant dawes, purely brilliant. Thanks! | 2009-10-18 00:01:00 Author: Sage Posts: 2068 |

Yeah - that was fun!! | 2009-10-18 00:01:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
If you look at the whole phrase The hardest example would obviously result, detrimentally, in Sam Lloyd's outstandingly logical/lateral, invigorating, powerfully obscure puzzles. It's "The word is lollipop" | 2009-10-18 00:01:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Ah, I get it, detrimentally can mean "broken down from" I never would've thought to use the letters from each word... | 2009-10-18 00:02:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

So Sam Loyd wasn't involved at all!?!? His only purpose was to lead to the word lollipop?? RAGE Lol... yeah but all of dawes hints saying look at it indirectly led me to that. | 2009-10-18 00:04:00 Author: Sage Posts: 2068 |
No, Sam Loyd was supposed to point towards lateral thinking, and taking the hint in a completely different manner. | 2009-10-18 00:04:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Oh that makes sense lol, now THATS lateral thinking | 2009-10-18 00:05:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Oh, lol, I didn't even notice that the first letters from the first half of the sentence spell out "The word is" Very Nice! | 2009-10-18 00:05:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

305 posts in 2 hours. People must love their experience! The most I've ever seen on this site. | 2009-10-18 00:12:00 Author: KlawwTheClown Posts: 1106 |
I wonder if I beat Disguise yourself as another member? Also, incinerator, I thanked your post, should give you some XP in thanks for your efforts. EDIT: With all the posts I made and the Thanks! you gave, I end up with a nett loss of c. 350xp from this contest! Here's an idea - if you guys contribute say 100xp each, we could have a 1000xp pot if we're lucky, I'd chip in say 250, all of which would probably end up balanced out with the number of posts you guys make, and I'd create another of these puzzles! I'd have to put more thought into it, though. | 2009-10-18 00:13:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

How do I go about contributing xp? Just send it to you? I have plenty of xp I'm not ever going to use anyway so there may be a bit more than 100 going towards the next riddle from my side. | 2009-10-18 00:21:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Syroc, don't send it yet. When I have some plans (I have one or two already), I'll make a thread asking for donations, then...it'll begin again. Not for a week or two though. | 2009-10-18 00:26:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Well, I didn't plan to just yet. My plan was, and still is, to go to bed. | 2009-10-18 00:28:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I honestly don't think I could take another one of these for at least a week... lol. It was too darn nerve wracking. By the way, I already sent incinerator 100 xp for his troubles. | 2009-10-18 00:33:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
