Actually, i've noticed a big improvment in the levels of lag recently. Maybe that's just because of the lack of people, but meh. The lag started around the point Memo mentioned the server provider mishap thingmy a few weeks ago. And yes, I have noticed a significant drop in lag over the last couple of days...

we can always drop to a testserver without mods and try and throw as many people as possible on it. that would sort out whether it was the mods or not. Another big thing is that the newer versions of minecraft have crap loading times for chunks and the like compared to 1.7....especially under load. also, spout makes the server cry. I'd personally like to pare things down to worldedit, worldguard, mcmmo, lwc, and residence. oh wait. also would need chestshop and commandbook. here is our server's specs: Guaranteed RAM: 1GB Suggested Slots: 30 (we are set to 20 cause we don't use vanilla) Storage: 20GB 24/7 Support (i've usually had my tickets resolved within the hour) SSH/SFTP Root Access Daily Backups Free Sub-Domain Locations: Orlando, FL Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick

Thanks pho I was on the LBPC server today, still can't mine, and found a floating island. I climbed up a hill to it, went on the pass to it, snuck, and fell. Fail. Single player: My first steps are in some sorta Mountain/Forest terrain. I build a fair house in a tree, and a garage. 3 encounters with creepers, one killed, one dissapears, one blows up revealing a mine shaft (Hint hinnt ) Currently having my friends working on it (we share it) to extend the house. My other friend's first world was generated only to be on a 3 piece block in the middle of the ocean with no other land in sight. 3 PIECES OF DIRT TO MAKE A BOAT :O

All they do is kill each other, complain, and tell me to change the time and weather. ._. Also, Memo- what's this talk of the 1.7.3 world coming back? Is it too late to object? I prefer fresh starts to going back on past stuff. Not to mention we covered a MASSIVE area, so there will be hardly any villages and strongholds.

The shop mod is brilliant, but it can be done manually (passing items from player to player and paying money) if need be. A partial list of what i am thinking.... ones that will definitely stay: world edit worldguard big brother or whatever the new version that is an amalgamation of them all commandbook residence chestshop mcmmo iconomy ones that may be put in lwc (can actually probably be done away with, as any important areas can be world guarded or more likely residenced.) spout (this is one of the things i'm really pretty sure causes us such headaches with lag, all of the back end stuff and all.) Ones going byebye: For now, just jobs. that's the only one that i can see as being wholly detrimental to our server. at the moment our economy is so bloated that it is all but useless. A leaner economy will make things better gameplay-wise, although that means i'll have to build an excruciatingly large warehouse so that all the games items will be available to sell to.<3 I'll probably also make a place where certain blocks/items can be bought as well.

I'm getting really sick of this... I mean it is fine switching for an official update but why a prerelease. I enjoyed 1.8.1, I didn't want to play 1.9 until it is officially released. Now if I want to play on the server with my friends, I am forced to play 1.9 and I lose over 40 hours of work.

I spent all of today adding things to that, tweaking a ton of stuff, and generally making it look awesome Then Kernel joined, and we made a market place (This needs MCediting into another place & rotation, if possible Memo) and tweaked some more stuff. Finally, I made a fighting arena at the back. So, in case anyone has been living under a gigantic rock, Minecon is today where the full version of Minecraft 1.0 will finally be released after years of alpha and beta and stuff. Today I learned you can make Minecraft auto login as you. I found it on the Minecraft forum and thought I'd share. Go to your Minecraft shortcut (or make one, it needs to be a shortcut). Right click it, go to properties and then the shortcut tab. Type your username and password right after the target, like this: http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/3333/autologin.png Click apply and now every time you open Minecraft from that shortcut, it will automatically login with those details. You can also put in a server IP after the password and it will log straight into that server. So you could have different shortcuts for different servers and stuff. -------------------- Also, there's a slightly unstable version of Bukkit available now (here (http://ci.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/1467/)), are we going to use this one of wait for the full release?

We don't use release candidates. Only reccommended builds, as i don't want to scrape the remains of unstable ones off of the server's SQL tables again. Also, to clear up some confusion about the server rules: There is a reason we had a word filter. There is a reason we don't let people be arses to everyone, and there is a reason that you SHOULD NOT BUILD GIANT WANGS on the server. This is a semi-family-friendly environment we are trying to cultivate here. lets not go out of our way to do things that will make me spawn you into a 2 by 2 bedrock box in the middle of a lava pool, mmkay? seriously folks, the fact that i've had to point this out for the second time is enough to make me haz a sad.

So apparently, the Yogscast acted like complete jerks at Minecon. They swore constantly at their panel in front of little children (which isn't the end of the world but still bad), demanded to be paid when no one else did, claimed they were the reason Minecraft was so popular (when really they started doing their videos when the ball started rolling, thanks to Seananners and X), and when a kid asked for their autograph, they wrote '**** Off'. Now Minecraft's community is split in half and everyone is clawing at each other's necks! Yaaay!

If it is a publicity stunt, its a d*m* good one. The video that plays automatically on BlueXephos 1.3 million views, compared to the others at 300-400 thousand. Personally, the fact that Yogscast is waiting so long to post their side makes me think theyre trying to twist the story a bit. I mean, if someone posted malicious stuff about me to half a million people and whoever else decides to look it up, Id want to respond as quickly as possible. They said, "well post our side when we get back from our 24 hour flight." Well obviously, it doesnt take 24 hours to fly from Vegas to Europe. They must have had a lot of time to kill. Huh? Yogscast being rude on Minecon? Where have I been all this time? Underwater? (I actually were underground exploring the Clockworks in Spiral Knights). Although your inclined to believe yogscast because they seem more mature(bear in mind theyve had like a week to write this out("getting rest" my a**)), I have to wonder... WHos lieing? Also, another thing... It was to suggest possible idea for our next world that could be modified in many ways before we put them in. After reading this post, which got me thinking about maybe how mods might feel, I'm thinking what we need is not a reduction of power, but just rather a change. Mods may seem to have a lot of power right now because they have creative, but that won't be in the next world. I feel that once Bukkit is installed, much of this will solve itself as long as there isn't an abuse of power. I wouldn't want this to become like some corporations where, as you say, the power is instantly evil. I believe introducing the 5 simple rules is a good step towards more freedom. You though ahead of me there , and you deserve a cookie. You also added little descriptions underneath the rules, which I feel should maybe be extended a bit. Maybe what we need is not just one ranking system, but maybe as you suggested, two. There could be a possible normal ranking system, such as "Admin, mod, trusted, player"( <- Idea) AND a "goodness" system/ trustworthy meter. Now, keeping mod powers down, once again, might not just be removing powers, but rather a shift in power that Bukkit will bring. I agree that the main purpose of mods are to help keep control when the admin isn't around, and Bukkit commands will help mods be able to do just that. Is anyone else having a problem while logging in? For me, the game stays on the Logging in screen whenever I try to join the server, and then eventually gives me a "Took too long to sign in" message. My brother and I have just been playing with seeds for a while and we (well, he) found a cool one, if anyone's never seen a Mushroom biome before. Use "Sir Francis Drake" as the seed and the world name and you'll spawn beside a mountain. Walk in the complete opposite direction from that mountain (to the west, according to my minimap) and you'll see the mushroom biome within 15 seconds. I also got a cool seed from a random world... Lots of cool looking mountains in the 60, 20 area. It's "7894865263924322698". Yeah, I can't wait for the new server world. I don't really have anything on my solo worlds. I like being online best.

Eh. one of the great things about this game is that it's impossible to say good or bad, more that it's how often do you die and what big wastes of time have you built. I'd say you are doing at least as well as me when i first bought it. By the way, our server is set to hard, and i intend to bump the spawn rates of monsters. just a heads up.
