Correction: to use a furnace and not crash your game, pick up only 1 piece of fuel and drop it in the fuel section. Turns out the game crashes if you light the furnace and still have some "picked up" by your mouse cursor.2011-09-10 00:39:00

Anybody else playing with the 1.8 update? Yes there's bugs, but it's worth the download!

For those under a rock (and the scared babymen who can't use a .jar for life):

HOW TO INSTALL 1.8
- Download: http://assets.minecraft.net/1_8-pre/minecraft.jar
- Start Menu
- Search %appdata%
- Open roaming folder
- Find and open your .minecraft folder
- Replace the old .jar file in there with the leaked one
- Start Minecraft

If you do download the game, do us all a favor and REPORT ALL BUGS AND GLITCHES YOU FIND IN THE GAME! Complaining about the bugs is not going to help. If you want the official release update to be working smoothly, then help Notch and all of us out by finding and reporting the bugs.

Also, post screencaps of your gameplay so others (mainly non 1.8 players) can see the update's changes. Screencapping bugs and glitches are even better.		2011-09-10 04:54:00

I'm loving 1.8 Started a new world, in a swamp forest (It's full of trees) and on one side it's a HUGE mountain. And when I got to the top, there were valleys, and more to the mountain And ravines. Have yet to go underground, but enders still freak me out, especially when I don't notice looking at them, but I did, so they teleport to me2011-09-10 23:32:00

No, but new content (villages, strongholds, mineshafts, vines, etc) will not exist in any pre-generated chunks.

Basically if you don't start a new file, you'll have to travel for miles just to see anything new.		2011-09-11 00:11:00

I believe a new world will generated but the old world won't be lost. You'll be able to teleport back and forth between the old world and the new world on the server.

Vines seem to be the new mushrooms, eh? Infinitely growing larger, all consuming, the ender of worlds, far reaching. "Is that a forest?" a son would ask, "No," says his father, "That's just the unholy Land of Vines. One day they'll be growing on you too."

Also, notch better add sprint as a normal control, as I want it to be shift. W+w tends to not always work and it's kind of a nuisance.

While on the topic of complaints I better throw in the fact that raise in fly mode is the same button as stop flying, and that when your feet touch a block you stop flying >:C Zombe did both flying and sprinting so well. Why couldn't Notch just fully copy him?

Oh and hey, why does flying feel like you are on ice? It's hard to be precise when you can't stop when you want to.		2011-09-11 04:08:00

oh yea. i should point out that 1.8 will absolutely break half of the mods on the server at present, and will do horrible, horrible things to mcMMO and probably spout. so, I'd expect that it will be a good while till the bukkit server with all of it's awesomeness is back up and fully running. we'll switch back over to bukkit as soon as a stable release happens and work our way from there.		2011-09-11 12:40:00

also, there is a little variance in size/height of mushrooms. Red ones have a 3 layer deep cap with a hollow center on the inside, brown ones are perfectly flat, and i think the width of the cap has variance as well as the height of the mushroom.

I've tried right clicking them with the ender pearl and nothing happened. I also could not eat rotten flesh. A bug, perhaps?

Well, due to a storm killing my internet connection i may not be able to get the server patched to 1.8 when it does come out. Hopefully it'll get fixed later today but if not and it comes out i'll have to come back to the Krystal in my hometown and try it from there. that'll be fun.

I was on every day until college restarted
And now I've got my work out of the way, I shall be on again most of the days I'm not at college
Not to mention I've been waiting for 1.8 so I can get cracking on building a town.

Which reminds me, as part of my current concept... How would you feel about building another one of your forests outside the town gates, Gilgamesh? Would make for and epic atmosphere

in my opinion endermens are just a bunch of pushovers xD seriously, i slayed 3 or more in the uber-laggy server these last minutes and several more with just my fist in single.

So, I found this awesome mountain/ocean area that would be perfect for us to build an epic town. Then, I looked and found a structure (maybe a stronghold?) I say we build a town here, there are many cool landscape features, and my stronghold is there also lol.

Sorry, I set up a house in the swamp nearby and then saw the giant mountain, so I climbed to the top to place a torch and feel accomplished. Then, I looked down and saw a path of planks, so I had to investigate. And the place where you hid the chest actually took me a little while to find, pretty cool. It took me ages to find a village and I am yet to find a stronghold, but my best advice would be to keep exploring and searching for flat biomes, as these are the only places villages can spawn.

Yeah, I play Minecraft exclusively on SSP. SMP sounds like fun, but I'm not sure this game is the type I'd like to play as multiplayer. I'm much more interested on the single player side of things, and basically use Minecraft to satsify the same itch I had when I used to build forts out in the woods when I was a kid.

Yeah, the terrain generation seems to leave big holes or giant walls every once in while, most notably around desert or mountain biomes. Forest, swamp and grassland all seem to spawn just fine. And once the ugly biome threshold is crossed, the biomes themselves appear just fine. I'm fairly certain it is the chunk rotation error (if my limited research skills are correct) that is back in full force.		2011-09-19 18:53:00

That's the entrance to the mineshaft where I got caught in mod_magik's exp vortex. Just so you know, that vortex has THREE players' worth of exp. Congratulations. You now can't get back on the server.

It will be craftable, is friendly, and throws snowballs at enemies. Also melts in hot biomes.

Also, they spread snow by walking around. Nice.

The snowmen are ridiculously suicidal, throwing snowballs at creepers and spiders, annoying them to attack the snowmen. It's funny. : D

Remember that snowballs deal 0 damage.

bukkit for 1.8.1 is out now, and we will be moving to it now.

Acceptable News:
until the plugins we use are updated we will remain on the vanilla server's map.

also:
It seems like some plugins may bite the big one, as big deals like this tend to thin the plugin developer herd a little. Big brother is the first (and biggest) casualty. However, it seems it is getting merged with another plugin, so we'll be golden soon i think.		2011-09-22 12:49:00

It took a while of flying in Creative Mode to find one of these structures, so they must be sorta rare. There are bars on the outsides of the windows, kinda makes it look like a prison of some sort.

New hostile mob that spawns in the castle-like structures. It flies around and catches itself fire every few seconds, from what I could tell.

Room inside the structure. There are long hallways and other small rooms and stuff (these things stretch on pretty far, lots to explore), but I didn't find any treasure chests or anything.

Some weird floor fence sorta thingies I found near some stairs. Dunno why there's soul sand beneath them, I'm guessing that was intentional.


I also spotted some Nether Slimes, same as normal Slimes except they're black with red fiery eyes. I saw a couple near my portal, but I forgot to get a shot of them before I killed them and then flew for ages and couldn't find another. Oh well!

EDIT: Finally found some more. They move like an accordion when they jump. So weird.

Yeah, so uh...I was kind of exploring the stronghold, and came across the ravine that goes through it, and uh...Died in the lava...And you know how I was crashing a lot yesterday? Yeah, when I fell in the lava it crashed and now every time I log into the server, I'm still in the lava and I crash immediately.

1.9 = 1.90
1.1= 1.10

I would have understood 1.95, or 2.0, but 1.10? I'm surprised he can even program a game if he can't use decimals properly. Why? Sometimes it gets boring playing a game to its "fullest extent". Like FPSs: you unlock everything, and then what?
